Personal Ramblings of a Ranger

Hello! I am Sidney Jacobs, a law enforcement Ranger here at South Toledo Bend State Park. If you’d like to know more about me, please go to the “Meet the Staff” page.

On this page, I will put what will no doubt end up as a very eclectic conglomeration of some of my personal thoughts and experiences here at “South” as we call it.

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  1. Thinking of a few days at your park in late Jan; first stop on winter tour from Texas to Florida. (We live in northern Wisconsin near Lake Superior.) What kind of weather can we expect? Since your lauches are closed, is there a launch nearby for our small fishing boat? Thanks, and we hope to see you in a month.

First things first, I suppose – late January weather is, if anything, more unpredictable around here than any other time of year. I will say that “typically” it’s cold and wet. But sometimes we have amazing stretches of mild temperatures and beautiful sunny breezy days.

As for your boat, there is one launch not far from here that is still open; it’s about 3 miles from here, on the Texas side.

Will you be coming to stay at a cabin, or in a camper? Either way, I’m sure you’ll have a great stay.

      Looking forward to seeing you,

  2. Thanks, Sidney! We will have 4 below tonight so you will be warmer than northern Wisconsin. An unfortunate health development on the part of a good friend has our plans up in the air. If we make it to Toledo Bend, we have a camper-van. Mark

      You’re more than welcome! 🙂

Sorry to hear about your friend; I hope he/she gets better soon.

And yes, I’m sure that after northern Wisconsin, the weather here will be a breath of warm air, so to speak. 🙂
