This is one of several “Hidden” beaches that the more intrepid hikers can treat themselves to, if they have a mind to. It’s a wonderful spot for a picnic lunch or just sightseeing.
I have seen Bald Eagles hunt from this beach, and you can also see the Toledo Bend Dam.
I haven’t been to all of Louisiana’s State Parks (yet), but I’ve been to enough of them to know that they all have secrets to be found by those who want to look.
Update: just a bit over a year later. The Hidden Beach is still there, of course…only now it’s really big. The unusually low lake levels have made it on the order of twenty times its normal size. If you look closely at the picture above, about one-third of the way from the right and one-third from the bottom, you can see what is almost recognizable as the top of a small tree stump in the water. As I write this, 04/11/2011, that tree stump is about 150 feet from the waterline.
